The ₹100 Crore Credit Decision

Can you make a ₹100 crore lending decision — and live with it 12 months later?

Built for MBA, BBA and B.Com finance students, banking trainees and new credit officers. No banking experience needed. Learn how a bank decides a big loan, step by step, then make the decision yourself and see how it turns out a year later.

You are the credit officer at FinTreasury Bank, our virtual bank. A fictional auto-parts maker wants a large loan for a new plant. You decide, you defend it, and you come back when things go wrong. Professor Owl teaches each step first.

Nine steps, two moments in time

The bank’s calculators work out every figure. You make the calls.

Today: the proposal

  1. Analyse — spot the warning sign in the company’s numbers.
  2. How much to lend — is the full amount safe, or is there a safer one?
  3. Price it — set the rate the risk deserves.
  4. Security and covenants — pick the terms that protect the bank.
  5. Credit committee — defend it to a committee that pushes back.
  6. Who signs — send it to the person allowed to approve it.

12 months later: trouble

  1. Read the signs — a year on, the warning signals are there. Do you see them?
  2. Classify it — which stage does the RBI’s rule put this loan in?
  3. Act — restructure, recover or wait? Each choice has a cost.

What you will be able to do

  • Read a company’s accounts and spot the number that matters
  • Decide how much to lend, and on what terms
  • Stand in front of a credit committee and answer the hard question
  • Send the decision to the person who is allowed to make it
  • Notice trouble early, and choose the right way out of it

At the end you see where you are strong and where to practise: credit analysis, risk judgement, structuring, pricing and monitoring.

It is good preparation for bank interviews, credit and lending roles, and the credit papers in your course.
